Increased genome and past traits

Postby suyuti » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:26 pm

Ok so i've got 3 questions.

Firstly, do humans have genes all the way up till their final common ancestor(or just within the homosapiens)?
Does the junk DNA contain genotypes of previous ancestors amongst humans(like great grandfather etc)?
Does the human genome increase in size every generation or few generations?

Thanks.

I hope you're not expecting yes/no answers.

AHAH big demand. Umm hard to say? I don't think there are any definite answers for that, but if you find some articles dealing with these topics, hook a brother up.

Thanks

Well i would like yes/no answers if they exist or are known but i don't mind others as long as they give some accurate idea on the questions.
I haven't come across any discussion on this topic though unfortunately. Anyone know any articles?
Personally i didn't know these are hard questions.

they're not particularly hard. For instance #3, Just look at ways the genome changes. The problem you'll soon find is that there's really not a particular way the genome goes...there's ways it can increase and ways it can decrease.

Oh ok thanks, any links?
So we don't know the general trend over generations(within a species) of the genome size(not in weight but in the number of nucleotides)? In humans i mean.

We share genes with virtually all other living things, even bacteria. The similarities across a broad spectrum have been what has led to some evolutionary biologists becoming focussed on genetic processors rather than the genes themselves.
