How to find out if a gene was present in more than 1 locus?

Hi! I am wondering if someone has the answer to my question!! I can't find the information i need in my textbooks.

I know that by using suitable primers in PCR, we can find out if a certain gene is present in a DNA sample or in the total DNA of an organism. But after proving the presence of the gene, what other experiment(s) can be done to find out if the gene was present in more than 1 location in the genome?

I will appreciate any kind of clue! thanks!!

cut your sequences up

[Cat]

1. Isolate total DNA.
2. Digest large amount with the enzyme (6 cutter preferred) that does NOT cut your gene overnight.
3. Run a long gel (5-6HR at 30V).
4. Perform southern blot.
5. Analyze results: 1 band = 1 locus, etc...
