Spiders....???

Postby Aracnophobe » Tue Jun 17, 2008 6:24 am

I am wonder what type of spider this is. I found it running quite fast across my living room floor. (Actually my dog found it). Sorry for the poor picture quality, to keep the spider contained I had to put a plastic shell overtop.

It looks like some type of wolf spider, but without knowing much about it (including where you are), there's not much more that can be said.

All I can tell you is it ran very fact, and it took me over an hour to try to catch it. Everytime I would get close it would run away, no matter how quiet or soft footed I was.

I am in St. Louis, Missouri, Dead center of the Mid West, and the spider was found in a finished basement which I converted to a living room.

I am overall concerned about it bring a Brown Recluse.

I don't think it's a recluse - the pictures are too fuzzy to be absolutely sure, but the proportions as well as the markings don't seem to fit.

I think it is a harmless grass spider. It won't hurt you!
