mannose extraction with methanol/chloroformHi,
ive been looking in my biochem books for why mannose can be extracted with methanol/chloroform in glycoprotein synthesis. I dont really get it, does the methanol/chloroform attach to a dolicol which is attached to two phosphate groups which is then attached to mannose? any help on this would be great (as i am probably not understanding it correctly) cheers Matt
yes,i think you have it exactly on target. Glycoprotein synthesis occurs by attaching sugars evolved from dolichol phosphate. Dolichol, of course, is a lipid, and can be extracted by using methanol/chloroform.

I know it has another function as a GPI anchor but is anyone aware of any others? cheers
