CAM and fotorespirationHi, I have 1 little question. How CAM plants prevent fotorespiration? or don't they? I understand why in C4 plants fotorespiration doesn't occures, but CAM is mystery for me.
Not prevent, but minimize photorespiration. They concentrate CO2 same as C4 plants, but by a different process. Look up crassulacean acid metabolism for details.
the reason is the same as in C4, only that in CAM there is a temporal separation rather than a spatial one.
