metabolic wastes? what ever do you mean? the plant absorbes only what it needs...

What I mean is like this, VFT plant traps flies and absorbs things it need (assuming nitrogen and proteins). So, how about the chytine?? does VFT excretes it out?? or it metabolizes that thing??

I've had Dionaea muscipula for some time... As well as some other carnivorous species. I kept it in a pot, had to order sphagnum soil but it was worth it. It was a real pain keeping my carnivorous plants alive as the climate here is not very welcoming for most of them, so I had to do everything I could to make the air humidity right. Also, since I am unfortunate enough not to have any sunlight in my apartment, I had to improvise the lights... Not having much money to invest in (and to pay electricity bills that come with special plant lights) I've made up a handmade LED lamp - the plants thrived under it! (I must accentuate that I am certainly NOT using my lamp for growing any illegal plants, as people used to ask me that all the time). Anyways, my point was - every condition in my place was the worst for the plants, yet I managed somehow with a bit of effort and they were very healthy and growing, so don't give up people Also, don't forget about winter dormancy - that's one of the most common mistakes people make, not letting the plant to go into it's dormant stage once a year. Refrigerator worked fine for me
