Guide to latin names?Hello,
I'm a 1st year undergraduate studying Applied Marine Biology, and I have terrible difficulty remembering latin names! It has been suggested to me that I should learn the meanings of names as I come across them, and I'm looking for a suitable book that would help me with the definitions. I don't know if such a thing exists, I have seen one for reptiles, birds and mammals, but that isn't really much help with marine organisms. I would be glad of any suggestions. Thank You, El
Re: Guide to latin names?Take a look here. I do not know if they are good or not.

Re: Guide to latin names? This link may also be useful.
http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/courses. ... tsMain.htm Awhile back, I actually compiled all the pages from the above site into a word document, but I did not post it here because I was unsure about a copyright violation. Maybe one of the mods has input on this.
Glad to help
If the mods give the go ahead, I will post the doc. It might fall under public domain rules, or for student use only.
I don't see why it would break copyright laws. In my opinion you can post it into the Biology Documents subforum

Re: Guide to latin names? It seems like a Latin translation dictionary would be the closest useful source - that's what the namers undoubtedly use.
Maybe the namers know latin(and they don't use anything)

Well the book I ordered is sort of a latin translation dictionary, a lot of Biology students (and teachers) have reviewed it and say its very useful, so hopefully it will help! Maybe next semester I wont feel quite as clueless as I did in the exams I've just had!
