Biologically, happiness must be the feeling of being a step better for our propagation. Otherwise, human can not survive long.

Unhappiness is almost just the counterpart of the happiness.

These conclusions can be drawn simply by reasoning with the knowledge of a high school student who has learnt the biology and history.

the answer looks a bit philosophical to me.....
but i think its good enough.
I am not very sure how evolution plays a major role here....

interesting thoughts. I completely agree, happiness is a tricky word. I had a shot at trying to define it in a more "scientific" or "objective" way, despite it being a subjective feeling: [link removed]
