New Forum Changes

Postby mith » Thu Dec 27, 2007 4:53 pm

So, we have a new forum obviously. 2 notable changes

1. More mod powers!
2. ????
3. User avatars now active!
4. Profit.

I think that's about it. I was told that more stuff would come/tweaked.

May be more sober. Like Science or Nature. Now looks fresh...too much. Smiles in a scientific forum is not my idea of scientific debate. This aspect may be rejected by serius people.

It's supposed to be being implemented according to the Admin.

Why is that? Scientific can be light hearted and have a sense of humor too.... And serious discussions and ideas can be exchanged without making sad faces. That is why the busiest and richest area of many labs I have been in is the coffe corner. You discuss ideas in confidence, even the wildest and later in the lab, you see what can be tested, seriously. And this is not Science or Nature either. And the serious discussions are usually carried without smilies.

You are correct, i know this is not an scientific journal. Belive it or not: exist people that prefer to be serius. Maybe is irrelevant if are more "productive" or not, i did not say "succesfull people".And i respectifully understand your conviction.
Please, all the users have the rigth to use or not "smiles", i know that too. So de Admin make an smart choice, but personally: i do not like "smiles".
So, do not consider my comment as my bad imitation of "Torquemada".

I like the new look but is it still possible to sort the member list according to total posts and check how close I am to the top? Also, I miss the "mark all forums read" button.

oh, a new feature is the fact that posts in the off-topic sections are not counted anymore in the total post count of each user. This feature was implemented so that the total post count can be used (at least very vaguely) as an indicator of how useful that person is on the forum

Weak. That could deep-six my plan to have the highest post count on the forum.
