All right, I think its is a topic of interest to all. I would like to start discussing ideas as to how to make Mus musculus, also known as common house mice, live longer. I am interested in trying, I have read many articles on some of the ways on making a mouse live longer, as well as anythings from fruit flies to worms, but I would also like some more ideas, perhaps I have missed an article or two, etc.

I'm not sure I have enough commitment to a mouse for several years, but I would still like to try and do something. However, even if I don't perhaps I could interest some of you guys to donate, or perhaps try experiments as well. I suppose this thread may only help increase awareness but I would like for it to also help out the Methuselah project in one way or another.

Check out this TED talk from Aubrey De Grey.

In a little while I will add some articles I have found on life extension, etc. However, right now is not the best time for me to do so.

Anyways! lets get to discussing on how to increase lifespan of Mus musculus! :)

I have a few questions, that likely only suggestions can be given too.

First off, i am fully aware that people shouldn't keep wild mice for many many reasons. But i am doing it anyways :P

Well, since the wild mice can jump significantly higher then the inbred mice at the store, what kind of cage can i put them in?
will a normal mouse cage do, or do you think that they would be to smart, and get out when feeding, etc. Or is their a good type of feeder, and watering system that can be held outside of the cage?

I am also wanting to try and rid them of decease. Do you have any ideas as how to do that? Antibiotics seem risky, but I'm willing to try.

Or, if you so strongly recommend against me having wild mice, as pets where can i get long lived mice?

Captive mice only live about 2 possibly 3 years in captivity. Wild mice, tend to live up to four years, and possibly then some.

Also, any ideas on how i can control how much they eat? Obviously i don't want to feed them a special amount of food every single day of my life for the next ~ 5 years. I was thinking automatic feeders seem like an option, however i am not sure if i can adjust the exact amount of food they will receive, so any input on that would be neat :)
