What Is the Biological Basis of Consciousnesss? In the 17th century, French philosopher and mathematician René Descartes declared that mind and body are entirely separate, leaving the debate over the nature of consciousness to other philosophers.
Today scientists are challenging that notion with a view that consciousness arises from the properties and the organization of neurons in the brain. Experimental work to unravel those properties and processes has only just begun. "If the results don't provide a blinding insight into how consciousness arises from tangles of neurons, they should at least refine the next round of questions," Greg Miller writes in the Science special issue. As a science graduate do you agree with the point ''mind and body are entirely separate'' http://www.newsinbiology.blogspot.com/ Last edited by allabout on Sun Feb 03, 2008 8:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: What Is the Biological Basis of Consciousnesss?then we go to the definition...
this guys have differend definition of that word some define it as the soul of course in religion, its not part of the body(in some philosophy there are even different categories of such. Some of this are not part of the mind) consiousness comes from experiences if psychology is to be consulted in biology,we can probably take this theory: <"If the results don't provide a blinding insight into how consciousness arises from tangles of neurons...",Greg Miller> until we find a more acceptable one to take over <" As a science graduate do you agree with the point ''mind and body are entirely separate'' "> i believe its relative. it depends on how you define mind... because at one or more point mind is not the brain and vice versa. perhaps we can say "the brain and the body are one"
