First off ICO, listen to Mith, He is like Mr. Wizard. Secondly I kinda thought up a test setup for you. In one test, use a fake magnet, the other test you could divide the tank with some sort of median, and put magnet on one side of median with fish on other side. Try exp with both poles of magnet. Then do same on other side of median. I made a little drawing to illustrate.

Hey but i'm not gonna get salmon to do the expirement i'll just do with tetras and guppies.

And i don't get it how am i gonna get a unit of measurement on my observations on how i see the fish react. Also Marineland or Tetra FIn sure does not make medians for a 10 gallon tank that would be humongous and where would i get it and i sure don't know how to make it i'll just stick with my other idea.

I was thinking maybe i should use different stength magnets like a N40 neodymium magnet and a N48 magnet and a regular kitchen magnet. Also i was thinking of putting a fish block between 2 magnets and see how the fish react, also I was thinking of putting food in different areas of the tank.

P.S: FOr the median thing to work i would have to get one of those little tanks that separate the Betas from fighting and I would put 2 fish on one side. And then I would put a magnet on the other like Michael Xy said.

Just a quick disclaimer: I never tried this experiment, and the results may prove to be less than what might be expected. So before you go to far into this, maybe just run a quick exp with a magnet to see if anything happens. I would feel bad if I gave you bad advice. Like I said, it what just an idea. Scientist often prove their own hypothosis wrong through experiments. That is why the do them

Yah I get it but i already gave the idea to the teacher.

What happens if nothing happens, well i guess i just say nothing happened Not a big deal. My dad said to make a magnetic field i need 2 mgnets that one faces the south side and the other one faces the north side.

So yah i'll see if anyone else has done this project and has posted their indings on the web.

Read my post, it'll give you something to think about if "nothing" happens. Remember nothing is relative to what you're measuring. If the fish become more active and you were measuring attraction to the magnet then "nothing" happened according to your recording criteria.

Another thing, remember that magnetic fields decrease with relation to distance(r) with this relationship:

Yah i know if nothing happens that's what i'm measuring so yah i knw that. Also i know that with distance the field decreases in strength
