just a piece of advice to ask:
I would like to know more about HIV-1 and AIDS (quite a detailed overview with the mechanisms of cell entry, the replication of the virus, the diagnosis,...) could anyone give me a good adress on the web??

Now, here is what i know about the HIV-1 virus
it contains a proteic capsid(like any virus) and inside it has 2 molecules of RNA and 2 molecules of an enzyme called reverstranscriptase. Now when the virus gets into your body(we will cover the ways of infiltration later on) that enzyme catalises the reaction of synthetising a molecule of DNA using a RNA molecule as a model. The DNA infiltrates the host cell's chromosomes(this DNA is also known as a retrotransposon)-in this case the host cells are T4 cells, which are designed to kill this kind of threats. Then it transformes them and thus keeps them from doing their job. When it replicates the "pol" gene serves for the synthesis of reverstranscriptase. The "gag" gene- synthesis of the protein core. The "env" gene-synthesis of the viral capside. The HIV-1 virus is the "smartes" virus of all because it keeps changing the structure of it's surface antigene so it is never recognised by antibodies. Since your body keeps producing imunoglobulines each time it detects a change, this leads to the loss of this function(you can't make them for ever). Now you are vulnerable to regular deseases that you usually are not and can die of a common cold. You die in aproxymately 10-15 years after infection(period may very if you take a treatment-most famous drug is something called AZT)
Now it spreads only through blood contact... oxygen kills it so it will die in about 5 minutes after contact with oxygen. So the ways you can get it is:
-unprotected sexual contact
-blood transfusion(actually this way has been eradicated in the past few years)
-contact with an infected person's blood(if you have micro- or macrolesions)
-kissing(if you have a cut in your mouth)
There is no way of testing for the presence of the virus. The only way is testing if you have specific antibodies. That is why you must wait 3, preferably 6 or even 9 months to take the test and be sure you do not have the virus.
