Being in love...

Postby Sysia_sf » Sun Nov 18, 2007 2:30 pm

Hi, recently I read an article about the science of love. Basically it all works around the hormonal and nervous system. Could you imagine that, in all three stages (which are lust, attraction and attachment) the major role play the hormones like: testosterone, oestrogen, dopamine, oxytocin and the others. Does it make as more human or an animal? Could you imagine that “our” decisions about choosing a partner are not so obvious as they seems to be? :o

Does love feel any less real? I don't think so.

No, but it explains a lot about how and why we choose a partner….

Well you can look at sites like e-harmony which go on the premise that you can find love by pairing people up by matching them up on "compatibility" traits. But you also have people who do the whole "birds of a feather flock together" and also "opposites attract", which leads me to believe that love has a very irrational component to it.

Love, although caused by chemicals is no less enjoyable.
We tend to pick a partner like animals pick mates, we pick the strong type that we know can take care of us and defend us. Am I right?
And the um, "Opposites Attract." is rediculous, I think it's just a common myth when looking for love. No one gets along with an opposite because as we all know a person who believes opposite of our own beliefs is annoying.

Someone who is the opposite of you brings something new and interesting to the relationship.

Agree to disagree, It's better to love the same things and share in the experience of those things when you both like them.

Well, there's some indispensables that you do need to have in common such as what both want out of the relationship, and how to deal with some situations, but I think in other areas you do need spice in life. Sorry, I like getting in the last word :P

"Spice" doesn't come from an opposite personality. If you are an opposite of the person you're with and you bring something into the relationship you enjoy, that person wouldn't like it because they're your OPPOSITE!

Haha, I finally put in to words what I mean. Weird.

It may work in mathematics, but it doesn't work in personality and relationship circumstances.

Even though it is a chemical reaction that could most definitely be measured with numbers, how and when and who a person loves cannot be calculated, it's just common sense that a person doesn't fall for a person who has all the traits that they dislike.
