Elodea Microscope Diagram

Postby TerrorByte » Wed Oct 10, 2007 12:39 am

Okay, so I've taken a picture of an Elodea cell.

And I have to label atleast 5 things on the cell. The picture I took can be found here (I did not stain the cell): http://www.freewebtown.com/adeel/elodea2.JPG

Now, I can easily label cell wall, chloroplast and cytoplasm, but I was also hoping to label the nucleolus and nuclear membrane, as is seen in this picture I found here: http://www.ndpteachers.org/perit/Elodea%5B1%5D.JPG

I think I've located a possible nucleolus and nuclear membrane, but I may just be seeing things.. I remember reading somewhere that spotting the nucleolus is rare without first staining the cell.

Do you guys think that's a possible nucleolus and nuclear membrane? It's at the bottom right, and I've boxed it.

also depends on the cell cycle it is in.

well, from my experience it does indeed look like a nucleus and nucleoulus. however, staining is used for a reason. Guessing is not a good habit in science.

Yeah I know I should have stained it... And yeah, I shouldn't be guessing.

Thanks for the input.
