it's not any specific nerve but it's a response type
sympathetic- fight or flight parasympathetic - rest and digest Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; ~Niebuhr
parasympathetic and sympathetic nerves belong to the autonomous nervous system.
therefore, their works are involuntary. usually, during an action, only either one of them is in action, the other one is inhibited. as mithrilhack said sympathetic nerves are associated with fight or flight an example of this is when you're doing sport. sympathetic nerves instigate the release of adrenaline from the adrenal glands to the body. the result of this is vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels) and your blood pressure rises, in addition, your heart beats faster. parasympathetic nerves basically oppose the actions of sympathetic nerves. instead of vasoconstricting your vessels, they dilate it. thus blood flows slower and blood pressure drops. this usually happens when you are resting. also, when you rest, they tell your digestive system to break down food. hence the term rest and digest.
