SARS drug question

I am not a scientist, so I ask your forgiveness in advance if this is a stupid question. The drug Cinanserin is considered to be an effective form of treatment against SARS. Would Cinanserin also be effective against Feline Infectious Peritonitis being that they are similar corona viruses? Thanks for any help that you may give me.

Let me help you out. It's a protease inhibitor, which like many many viruses, protease inhibitors are sued to attack them. It goes after the C3L protease, which I'm not sure if Peritonitis have them or not, but from my experience, thousands of protease inhibitors are tested all the time for just one viral protease. In your case, it might help if you find out if there is C3L protease, or most likely a protease similar in structure as the C3L. That would require some experiments. You get what I mean now right.

Thank You, david23. FIPV does indeed have a C3L protease. As stated in my original post, I am not a scientist but I have recently lost a cat to FIPV. It is a horrible sickness. It seems as if little research is being done to find a cure and I can't get a definitive answer as far as using Cinanserin as a treatment. Anyway, thanks again for your time and reply.

If thats the case, then the inhibitor will usually be tested to see it's effects, and after a long while, and after being packaged into a different drug it will be used on pets.
