Myocardial InfarctionI need some help with the following:
During an MI there has been studies to show glucose levels increase - why? Is it due to the fact certain steroids are released? If so can someone explain the mechanism of this? Also by how much will blood glucose levels increase - will it be a significant increase? Brendan
Re: Myocardial Infarction
no, it wouldn't be due to steriods - they take hours to have an effect... at a guess i'd say increased glucose would be a result of increased adrenaline release due to stress...
I could be talking out of my...well you know, but it's possible the dying cardiac tissue releases glucose after a heart attack.
"What are humans if they don't learn at University? Animals, yes."
^^One of my ex-girlfriends said that. I stress the ex part.
I would have to say that the release of stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, would lead to an increase in blood glucose level. They are released in response to the body stress and pain. They have an anti-insulin effect. By how much, that's beyond me.
hope this helps,
