Study Habits

This is kind of a survey. I am curious what methods for studying you have used, or use. For example; flash cards, just read book, write extensive notes, etc. For me, I have found flash cards, and online quiz taking to help, but I would like to hear other methods.

well...I just read through the book and for important topics I search the net for information and clear my concepts by animations and stuff..Sometimes I write down whatever I have to learn in the form of points...and I collect interesting facts about the topics to interest myself...thats about it..

I think a combination of study methods is best as well. CD tutorials are always a great supplement to go along with the book.

When I was in college, I would try to explain the concepts to myself out loud. In other words, put it on your own words so you actually understand & know what the concept is. Rather than just having a text-book definition memorized, which doesn't always help.

I'd also make it a point to 'big picture' what you've learned every week or so. On Friday, try and look back to see how everything that you've covered in the previous week fits together, to get more of a cohesive understanding of the things you're studying.

To study, I extensively use search engines on the internet in order to hunt down as much content as possible. Usually you can find me with +100 tabs open (Opera web browser), maybe five or ten conversations going on in the background, plus a few textbooks open on my desk with two or three monitors rotting my eyes late into the night.

I'd elaborate with links, but there are some posting limits here re: newbies and links. There's some stuff on my website that might illustrate what I am talking about, though you can always just contact me to get the extra linky goodness.

the best way to go is find out what you will be tested over, learn that 1st. learning key terms is a great idea. reading the chapter is not all that important but it is still a wise thing to do. the best way to study is to read about topics/subjects that interst you.

At degree level I believe that actually reading papers is the best way - they assume you already know the thing you are trying to learn and so explain it in a very fast, simple way and then build upon it.

For Zoology I am finding that learning Greek and Latin terms to be a real benefit.
