The need to stretch?

How does "pull something" as you said tie in with too much of a good thing?That doesn't make any sense at all. Too much of a "good thing" is a philosophy which runs into too many problems when we examine it in the light of truth. There's no such thing as too much love--love is a good thing. Me thinks you're confused. :wink: Oh well, sorry for being off-topic, but your posts honestly made no sense. :o Thanks for trying anways! :wink:

No apologies from me about the tie-in to sexuality. The relationship is obvious and unavoidable. Do not deny it and try to separate one sense of the body from its fundamental physical motivation.

Among the diverse things that I have done, I was a dancer. Intelligent discussion of the relationship between aspects of dance and aspects of sexuality were done with no embarassment or sense of talking dirty.

The pleasure of stretching. Tension release. Orgasm. It's all bodily fulfillment. Satisfaction with physical being. Nothing to be put off by. There's a balanced, proportioned way to look at it without thinking porno, or debasing thoughts. The body, like anything else, can be an artform or a sledge pile. It's the conscientious approach that determines which.

Now to k's question about Alexander Technique: "Anything to it?"

ANSWER: Yes,... just as there is something to yoga, Martha Graham technique, Nicolae technique, or any other dance technique where somebody has figured out a particular precise style to condition the human body. There are many ways to go. The body is amazingly trainable in different precise synergistc ways.

One particular technique has a different synergistic effect than another specific technique. Again, it's like art: You can have your base material as paint and produce innumerable different distinct styles. In dance or physical discipline, the body is the basic material that gets developed accordingly.

Right you are. It's about posture, & learning how to adjust your posture during your regular routine activities so that you're more comfortable, refreshed, less strain, etc. Almost like learning how to get rid of your bad habits.

At the beginning of the class, my teacher repositions parts of your body (shoulders, placement of the hips, middle torso, head) while you're standing.. Then she sets you off on a walk. It's an amazingly different feeling at first. You almost feel like you're floating along with minimal effort.

Often you're invited to pick a regular activity that you do on a daily basis, while your teacher watches & then repositions your body. I've seen this done for people on a range of activities - anywhere from sitting & reading a book, to playing guitar, to walking.

In my case, it was for dancing.

Overall, it seemed to take away strain. It made activities easier - perhaps by simply thinking about it before doing it, or the realization that you're holding a lot of strain without realizing it (in lower back, shoulders, etc.)

A lot of what you take away from the course is a greater sense of body awareness - how it moves, how it reacts, and what you can do to minimize the normal everyday stress we put on our own bodies.

I highly reccomend it.. it's definitely not scary.
Haha.. "The Technique" - I don't think I've heard anyone talk about it on those terms before. :D

Hi Madeline :)

I'm guilty of thread hijacking up there, so I'm coming back to one of your questions.

You do stretch to avoid pulling muscles, but you can definitely hurt yourself by stretching improperly. Or stretching while you're muscles are cold. A small warm up of the initial activity is always good first.

Madeline, ... if you're there ..., I wonder if you might describe what sorts of stretches you do.

What parts of your body do you stretch often: sides?, calves?, hamstrings?, chest?, neck?, quadriceps?, arms/shoulders?

Do you reach over your head?, bend at the waiste?, twist?

Do you stand?, sit?, lie in bed?

Are you around other people?, by yourself?

Are you more shy about stretching, when other people are in view?


I'm just curious. You say that you stretch all the time. I wonder if you might elaborate in this way.

I do one long stretch routine in the morining (as I said earlier), and I stretch whenever necessary throughout the day also,... probably unaware in some cases, since it is so instinctive for me.

I find that after my long stretch session (which is comprehensive whole body), ... I tend to stretch my back, calves and neck additionally at other times throughout the day. I'm not too shy about it.

Throughout the week, when I walk on a bike trail,... I also have an additional stretching routine that I do at the chin bars where I do chinups -very systematic, in total public view. It's amazing how few other people I see stretching systematically in public view outdooors,... by themselves OR with someone else. What a waste of the outdoors and personal potential !!

Sorry - I'm a little late!

Those are a lot of questions, lol.

I do routine stretches after I exercise, such as aerobics, or on the treadmill. What I meant by all the time is like when you wake up in the morning and do the whole body stretch...I do that all the time and it feels good. These stretches I mostly do whilst lying down, or I do it standing up when at work after I have sat in my cubicle for a while.

I don't think what's being discussed here is dirty. I just think that the word "Orgasm" doesn't need to be discussed in order to get the point across. I've never had an orgasm because I never had sex before, and such talks put dirty thoughts in my mind which isn't good since I'm a Christian. Hope you understand.

I'd say that if RK stretches for an hour every morning and frequently throughout the day, and he's still sane, I think Madeline ought to be just fine :).
Perhaps kotoreru you are making the mistake of drawing parallels between stretching and masturbating like RK said..? ;D

Madeline can you link me to the thread where they were talking about stretching? I'm actually really curious as to how it benefits us physiologically.
