Elastic recoil of the lungs...

Hi there..

Just wondering we were given a table of vol. vs. pressure from a subject that had his respiratory muscles relaxed against a totally occluded airway....I'm just wondering what was the point of a totally occluded airway---I don't even get what that means to be honest...and these pressures gave us the elastic recoil pressures...is it due to the fact that the only factors influencing the recoil were the elastic fibres whereas if it had not been occluded other factors such as (i don't really know) could affect it?...can someone please help me...
