glowing bacterias

Hi
Can you tell me how many glowing bacteria’s are there please. and if you can witch one is the brightest, witch is the easiest to grow and how dangerous are they .I have heard of one "Photorhabdus" it apparently infects insects and after wards it leaves there bodies glowin g. Interesting I thought.

Actually I think one can use 'bacterias' to refer to different 'types' at one time i.e. generas etc.

Much in the same way as fish and fishes.

(sorry - and yes I see your point, our friend probably didnt know this)

Maybe, but i don't think so.
You see, most of the nouns I know that behave like that have the plural from the same group identical to the singular.
fruit(one apple) - fruit (many apples) - fruits(apples and grapes)
The same with fish

Again, I say that i don't know for sure. But this is my opinion.

To come back to the original topic. depends who you are. if you are a researcher or a student with a profesional adress you can just look on medline if someone has that and kindly ask them for a sample. If you are just anyone, I doubt that anybody will send you something, and you will have to pay (and yes certified bacterial strains are expensive, but considering he QC/QA work involved, this is not without reason...).

Almost, A is for assurance.

It is not easy to prove that the strain you have is actually a perfect copy of the original. So it needs a lot of testing and also regular testing of the stored products (and eventually renewing stores if needed) to insure constant quality. Hence the prices. ATCC is a not for profit organization, as well as the Pasteur Institute. So all the Quality controls drives the prices up.
Transport is not cheap either. You would not want a leak of bacteria in your mail, would you
