* anything you know about liquids and mixtures that cause self organizing.

this is not very scientif as i was just washing up but i found that the last bit of light soya (liguid in glass bottle in the UK anyway) did not mix with the water but rose above it and formed a red layer.

even if you dont find this helpful it probably wasnt something you knew about before

im really sad aren't i?

I'm not sure what you mean by "light soya". I think I know, but could you clarify. And no apologies necessary; I am on the edge between science and art, so all liquid experiences are worth considering here.

Oh, before I forget,... sorry, moderator, that I had to inconvenience you to move this post from the "cell biology" forum, but it seemed that the most specific knowledge relevant to my topic would be pruned from the experts there.

I'm looking for specific chemicals that do neat things, and I'm curious how these "neat things" might also be precursors to the dynmics of living processes.

Perhaps you would be interested in looking into the experiment of Miller and Urey? It's probably not 'pretty' in the sense of things, but may be helpful in some way.

Also, if one places certain lipids and nucleic acids in a jar and shakes them vigorously then you can actually form 'proto-cells' i.e. they have a lipid membrane that separates the inside from the outside. Cant remember the specifics now though...

Thanks for the general insight on lipid/nucleic acid mixtures. And DO get back with me, if you remember the specifics - I'm looking for exact mixtures to duplicate, observe and manipulate.

I know egg yoke, oil-water mixtures do the proto-cell thing. I'll give that a try eventually, as part of my manipulations and colorations.
