Instead of letting us know the figure.. what are the functions of measuring these stuff? e.g. residual, tidal, vital volumes.

Certain conditions can affect the various volumes or pumping efficiency - you take those measurements because they can mean something. If you're healthy and taking it in a class, it's to give you an idea of how it all works.

At least, I think that's what you're asking...
