How to "delay" a woman's menstrual cycle?

Postby chenglorraine » Thu Apr 05, 2007 4:53 am

A question open to each and single one of you!

I know there is a special type of injection you can use to "delay" your menstrual cycle......but what kind of hormone REALLY is involved in this kind of process?

progesterone or LH.

To prevent ovulation and growth of endometrium thickness in proliferative phase. No ovulation, no implantation, no bleeding.

LH?... Giving LH would cause ovulation to occur?...

Two types of contraception...

1) 'Combined pill' (oestrogen and progesterone)
Mechanism of action: prevents ovulation, prevents implantation, increases cervical mucus production

2) 'Mini pill' - (progesterone)
Long acting injectable contraception (useful for people who forget to take the pill every day)
Mechanism of action: prevents implantation, increases cervical mucus production but doesn't prevent ovulation (which is why it is less effective than then combined pill)...

Since a cycle where follicles form but no ovulation occurs (I think it's called an atretic cycle) will delay the end of the cycle, I would think that estrogen input around the normal ovulation time would do it as well. Not sure why you'd want to, though...

Well, it depends on the cycle, actually. The balance of progesterone-estrogen, then the balace of LH-FSH, positive control of estrogen-progesterone, negative control of estrogen-FSH and progesterone-LH and LH-FSH should be considered.

If I may ask, why do you want to delay your period?

Aww... I understand but I think it is not bad at all to let your period happens naturally. Something that runs periodically, moreover a biological process which relates to hormonal cycle, shouldn't stop unless you are ready to get consequence that you might dunno yet.

Menstruation is about a week while you and your husband will stay together for much looooooonger times, so if he really loves you, he can understand your situation and no matter to delay to do "it" for the next week when you finish your period ;)

I cannot see this delay is a very urgent and a must-to-do thing for you.

Progesterone(hormone) is a good hormone for delay menstrual cycle.
General:Inhibit production of FSH and LH

Mechanism:
When progesterone(blood) injection to body,it will flow to brain n inhibit the production of FSH and LH which produce from anterior lobe of pituitary gland. By inhibit the production of LH and FSH the ovary cant produce any hormone such as progesterone(produce from ovary and oestrogen(produce from ovary). In uterus without oestrogen n progesterone, proliferation doesn't not occur.

Effect:
Menstrual cycle will delay
Second characteristic more nice
Example:voice will more sweat, body will look more smooth

Personal Question:
If really wan to delay menstrual cycle, better than no menstrual cycle,do operation for removed both ovary.
(I not sure can removed ovary from body and cause problem to health)
