Radiate Amoeba

I have been studying ameba off and on for about a year now, maybe a little more. I have observed mostly Mayorella and a few A. proteus. My question concerns the genus Mayorella. When suspended in its aquatic environment, Mayorella extends its pseudopodia to exhibit a radiate stage. At times the pseudopodia will have a spiraled or corkscrew appearance. Can anyone speculate or confirm as to why this is.
