Races, and how they relate to facial features

Postby forumz » Tue Mar 27, 2007 1:44 am

Hello, I'm in need of helpful resources outlining the cause of the present facial features in modern ethnics. For example, the Asian community had developed slanted eyes to adapt to the sun in the mountains, and African Americans tend to have larger noses in order to breathe better in warmer climates (which is all I've been able to gather thus far). Thank you all for your help in advance

[Note: This was also posted in Genetics, though after further thought I realized it belonged here. My apologies!]

i dont have any links sry, just an opinion.

asians eyes arent more slanted than other races but they have a fold of skin?? on the top eyelid that could be related to something other than adaptation to sun in mountains. is all of asia covered in mountains? why havent they developed longer thicker eyelashes to combat the sun?

in relation to african noses, i think their lifestyle before european colonization was largely active and so more air coming into the lungs was needed. i think that in colder climates bigger noses were better to warm the air before it reached the lungs. i dont have any definitive answers. but a bery interesting topic imo.

All you're going to find are hypotheses with a lot of holes in them. There are very few racial features with clear adaptive advantages (like skin color and lactose tolerance), and none of the clear ones are facial features.

That doesn't mean you can't write about them, just make it clear that these are just opinions, some of them very old.

Really, I have not any "good" ideas what cause difference between eyes of asian humans and othres. May be this is result of genetic drift "captured" by the sex selection after? Becouse which adaptic advantege this feature can give??? It's hardly to dimention for me...
