Conclusion
- Interaction between Bluetongue virus outer capsid protein VP2 and vimentin is necessary for virus egress

Principal conclusions from this study are: i)The interaction that has been observed between mature BTV particles and vimentin intermediate filaments [26] is dependent on outer capsid protein VP2. ii) Amino acids 1–118 of VP2 are sufficient to determine vimentin association and within this region deletion of residues 65–114 or mutation of amino acids 70–72 to DVD is sufficient to abolish vimentin interaction. iii) Disruption of the vimentin intermediate filament network leads to an accumulation of intracellular virus particles and a reduction in virus release possibly because vimentin is involved in BTV trafficking to the cell surface.
