Ethanol effects on the epidermis of rat fetuses: morphologic and morphometric study

Abstract: The effects of prenatal ethanol intoxication on histology and morphometric parameters of the fetal rat skull epidermis were studied. A 25% ethanol solution etanol (0.03 ml/g body weigth), administered intraperitoneally to Wistar rats in the 9th, 10th en 11th day of pregnancy, caused retarded intrauterine growth of the fetus and placenta. It was demonstrated that the epidermis of the skull was thinner in the fetus of the intoxicated group than in the control one. Results of the morphometric analysis suggest that ethanol induces retarded growth (hypoplasia) in the cells of the fetal skull epidermis from ethanol intoxicated rat fetuses
